A clear invoice gets paid faster. Here's what to put on a plumbing invoice, a sample you can download, and a quicker way to make your own.

What to put on a plumbing invoice

  1. Your business name, phone, email and address, and your tax ID if you collect sales tax.
  2. The client's name and the job address.
  3. An invoice number and the invoice date, and a due date. 14 days is common for homeowners.
  4. The work, line by line: the service call fee, labour by the hour, then each part or fixture on its own line with the brand or model.
  5. Subtotal, any discount, sales tax and the total.
  6. Any deposit already paid, and the balance still owing.
  7. How to pay: a payment link, bank details or a check payee.
  8. Short terms, such as the due date and what happens if it's late.

Tips that get plumbing invoices paid

  • Write down what you found and what you fixed. If the problem comes back, you both have a record.
  • Put after-hours or emergency rates on their own line so the client sees why the bill is higher.
  • State your warranty on parts and labour, even if it's short.
  • Reference the quote they accepted, so there are no surprises about the price.
  • Make paying easy. One tap to copy your payment link beats a bank number on paper.
  • Follow up on the due date and again a week later. A polite reminder is usually all it takes.
