A clear invoice gets paid faster. Here's what to put on a roofing invoice, a sample you can download, and a quicker way to make your own.
What to put on a roofing invoice
- Your business name, phone, email and address, and your tax ID if you collect sales tax.
- The client's name and the job address.
- An invoice number and the invoice date, and a due date. 14 days is common for homeowners.
- The work, line by line: tear-off and install by the square (100 sq ft), underlayment, flashing and vents, disposal, and the permit on its own line.
- Subtotal, any discount, sales tax and the total.
- Any deposit already paid, and the balance still owing.
- How to pay: a payment link, bank details or a check payee.
- Short terms, such as the due date and what happens if it's late.
Tips that get roofing invoices paid
- Say how many squares you measured and the pitch. It explains the price and avoids arguments later.
- Put rotten deck boards on their own line at a price per sheet, so the client knows what extra wood costs before you find it.
- Write the shingle brand, color and the warranty that comes with them, plus your own workmanship warranty.
- Ask for a deposit before you order materials. A third up front is common.
- Reference the quote they accepted, so there are no surprises about the price.
- Make paying easy. One tap to copy your payment link beats a bank number on paper.
- Follow up on the due date and again a week later. A polite reminder is usually all it takes.
